Frequently Asked Questions

At Define PMU + Skin in Hoole, Chester, we know choosing a brow or lip treatment can feel like a big decision. Here are the answers to our most common questions. If you don’t see yours here, just get in touch - we’ll be happy to help.

General FAQs

  • How much does it cost to have brows or permanent makeup?

Prices vary depending on the treatment. Brow treatments start from £260 (including your initial top-up session). Premium services such as Nano Brows and Ombre Lips are £325. You’ll find the full price list here.

  • Brows and lips typically last between 1–3 years depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and how well you follow aftercare. Most clients return for a colour boost around 12–18 months to keep results looking fresh.

  • We use high-grade numbing products throughout your treatment to keep you comfortable. Most clients describe it as a scratching sensation rather than pain.

Brows (Nano, Ombre, Microblading & Colour Boosts)

    • Nano Brows (Hyper-Realism) use ultra-fine digital hairstrokes to mimic real brow hairs. They look incredibly natural, ideal for sparse or uneven brows.

    • Ombre Brows are softly shaded for a powdered makeup look — great for oily skin types or anyone who prefers a fuller, more defined finish.

  • As skin matures, it becomes thinner and more delicate, meaning traditional microblading can heal unpredictably and cause scarring. Nano Brows are a gentler, longer-lasting alternative, making them a safer choice for clients over 55.

  • Most clients have their first boost between 12–18 months, depending on skin type, sun exposure, and skincare products. Colour boosts are only suitable if there’s still a visible brow shape and colour remaining.

  • Microblading uses a handheld blade to create small incisions in the skin that mimic hair strokes, while Nano Brows (also known as Hyperrealism Brows) are created using a digital machine and ultra-fine needle. The result is softer, more natural and less traumatic for the skin, with longer-lasting colour retention and minimal scarring risk.

Nano Brows are ideal for all skin types -including mature or sensitive skin - whereas microblading can fade unevenly or blur over time. This is why we specialise in machine-based techniques at Define PMU + Skin, offering the latest methods in natural, healed realism.

Brow Lamination & Hybrid Stain

  • In Chester, the average cost of a professional brow lamination treatment ranges between £40–£55 depending on the clinic and whether a tint or hybrid stain is included. At Define PMU + Skin, Brow Lamination with Hybrid Stain is £50

  • Our Brow Lamination & Hybrid Stain treatment is £50 and includes shaping, tinting and aftercare. It lasts around 6–8 weeks depending on your hair growth cycle. We also run seasonal promotions, so check our booking page for the latest offers.

  • When done professionally with high-quality products, brow lamination is safe and non-invasive. The main downside can be over-processing if performed too frequently or with harsh chemicals - leading to dryness or breakage. At Define PMU + Skin, we use a gentle, keratin-based formula to condition and protect the hair during treatment.

  • For the most natural result, Nano Hairstroke Brows (a machine technique similar to microblading but softer and longer-lasting) create the look of real hair. Many clients combine Brow Lamination for daily styling and Nano Brows for a semi-permanent, naturally full look.
